It would be foolish to think that a company could thrive without the values of teamwork. In fact, it is the fundamental of any thriving company to both encourage and reward teamwork because only through such collaborations can we get big results on big tasks. As a leader, boss, manager, whatever hat you wear, you might have wondered how you could really encourage both solidarity and a sense of community – two very important tenants of team work – in your environment. Lucky for you, we made a list.
1. Company sports team
Not as uncommon as you might think. Nothing builds solidarity and teamwork in the work environment like actually creating some real need for it in a recreational sport. Plus, it’s a great way for employees to escape the stress of everyday needs – car troubles, looking for debt settlement programs, PTA meetings, etc.
2. Company retreat
Everyone knows that there are two sides to every employee: the side you see in work (the professional) and the side you see outside (the person). Getting to know both and giving employees the chance to see it too will strengthen their sense of community even more. Take your team out on a trip or go out to dinner. Cookouts work, too.
3. Physical challenges
Weight loss competitions, relay races, company carnivals – anything that is a physical challenge and requires teamwork will help reinforce the sense of solidarity in the work force.
And remember that no employee can handle a major job on his own. The big jobs rely on big groups of people all working together as one to achieve big results.
